My husband and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary next summer and we really want to do something special in Europe. We have about ten days to work with and are hoping for a mix of romantic atmosphere, great food, and maybe some light sightseeing. We've already done Paris and Rome, so we're looking for suggestions that feel a bit different but still have that 'wow' factor. Does anyone have experience with places like the Amalfi Coast, Santorini, or maybe something in Portugal? We'd love to hear your personal recommendations for a trip that feels memorable rather than just a busy tourist trap.

For a 10th anniversary, skip the big cities and head to the Douro Valley in Portugal. It is incredibly romantic, the wine is world-class, and it feels much more intimate than Paris or Rome.

I second the Douro Valley suggestion! We stayed at a vineyard hotel there for our anniversary and it was the highlight of our lives.

If you want the 'wow' factor, go to the Amalfi Coast, but stay in Ravello rather than Positano. It's much quieter, higher up with better views, and feels way more exclusive.

I agree with the user above about Ravello. Positano is beautiful but way too crowded with day-trippers for a romantic getaway.

Have you considered Slovenia? Lake Bled is stunningly romantic, the food is underrated, and it’s definitely not a typical tourist trap compared to the usual hotspots.

Slovenia is a great idea! It’s also much more budget-friendly than the Amalfi Coast, which lets you splurge on nicer dinners.

Santorini is gorgeous, but honestly, it has become such a tourist trap lately. If you want a Greek island experience, try Milos or Folegandros instead.

Definitely avoid Santorini in the summer if you hate crowds. The sunset spots are a nightmare.

Look into Annecy, France. It's known as the Venice of the Alps and it is absolutely magical in the summer. Great food, beautiful lake, and very romantic.

Annecy is a fantastic suggestion. It’s so much more relaxed than the major French cities.

Whatever you choose, just make sure you don't over-schedule. Ten days go by fast, and the best memories usually come from just sitting at a cafe for three hours with a bottle of wine.
