I'm heading to Barcelona for a week next month and I'm really struggling to filter through all the tourist traps online. I'm looking for spots that feel a bit more authentic where the locals actually go for an evening drink and a few plates. I'm staying near Eixample but I'm happy to travel a bit further for a great atmosphere. Does anyone have any personal favorites that aren't completely overrun with visitors? I'd love to find somewhere with good vermouth and classic patatas bravas.

If you are in Eixample, skip the main streets and head towards Cervecería Catalana. It's popular, but for a good reason, though it gets crowded.

Actually, I'd avoid Cervecería Catalana if you want 'authentic.' It's way too touristy now. Try Quimet & Quimet in Poble-sec instead, it's tiny and standing-room only.

Seconding Quimet & Quimet! Just be prepared to wait a bit because it's always packed, but the montaditos are worth every second.

Check out Bar Cañete. It's a bit pricier, but the food quality is miles ahead of the stuff you'll find near Las Ramblas.

Don't go to Cañete expecting a cheap night out, though. It's definitely an upscale experience compared to a neighborhood tavern.

For real vermouth, look for places that say 'Bodega' in the name. They usually have the best house stuff on tap.

Bodega La Puntual in El Born is fantastic. It's a bit hidden and has that old-school atmosphere you're probably looking for.

Does anyone have a recommendation for patatas bravas specifically? Some places use frozen ones and it's so disappointing.

Go to Bar Tomás in Sarrià. It's a bit of a trek from Eixample, but they are widely considered the gold standard for bravas in the city.

I second Bar Tomás. It's a trek, but it is the most authentic experience you'll get.

Honestly, just wander into any place in Gràcia that doesn't have an English menu outside. You'll usually find something great.

This is the best advice. If the menu is translated into four languages, keep walking.

Enjoy your trip! Barcelona is amazing if you just get away from the main tourist hubs.
