I am planning a two-week trip to Croatia this summer and am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the ferry options. We want to see Hvar, Vis, and Korcula, but I am not sure if we should rely on the public Jadrolinija ferries or book private catamaran transfers instead. Is it worth the extra money for a private yacht charter, or will the standard ferries be sufficient for someone traveling with two large suitcases? Any advice from people who have done this route before would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, Jadrolinija is perfectly fine for most tourists. Just make sure you get to the port early to secure a spot for your luggage.

I second that. The catamarans are fast and reliable, and there is no real need to spend thousands on a private charter unless you really value total privacy.

Traveling with two large suitcases on the public ferries can be a bit of a nightmare during peak season. It gets very crowded and there isn't always a designated place for big bags.

That's a fair point, but you can usually leave them in the luggage area near the entrance. I've done it with two big bags and managed just fine.

Skip the private yacht unless you have a huge budget. The public lines like Krilo are actually much faster than the big Jadrolinija car ferries between those specific islands.

Exactly! Krilo is the way to go for island hopping. Just book your tickets online in advance because they sell out quickly in July and August.

Does anyone know if the ferries run frequently between Vis and Korcula? I had trouble finding a direct route last year.

There aren't many direct connections between Vis and Korcula, you usually have to transit through Split. Check the Krilo schedule carefully before you finalize your accommodation.

I did the Hvar-Korcula route last summer and it was super easy. The ferries are comfortable enough for a few hours of travel.

If you really want to avoid the stress of luggage, look into private water taxis for the shorter hops. They are pricey but way more convenient than dealing with the crowds.

Just remember that if the weather gets bad, even the catamarans can be canceled. Always have a backup plan or an extra day of flexibility in your itinerary!
