I've been dreaming about visiting the Faroe Islands for a while now, and I'm finally looking at booking a trip for next summer. I'm struggling a bit with how to split my time between the different islands since the ferry schedules can be a bit tricky. Is it worth renting a car for the entire duration, or is the public transport reliable enough if I stay in Tórshavn? I'm really into hiking and photography, so any recommendations for must-see spots that aren't too crowded would be amazing. Thanks in advance for the help!

Definitely rent a car. Trying to rely on public transport for photography spots will just lead to massive frustration and missed opportunities.

I spent a week there last July and renting a car was the best decision I made. It gives you the freedom to chase the light for your photos without worrying about bus timetables.

Does anyone know if the tunnels are expensive? I've heard there are tolls.

The tunnels have tolls, but they are worth every penny for the time they save you. Don't worry about the cost, just factor it into your budget.

For hiking that isn't too crowded, skip the popular spots like Múlafossur at midday and head up to the northern islands like Viðoy or Borðoy. The views are incredible and you'll have the trails mostly to yourself.

Has anyone tried the ferry to Mykines? Is it worth the hassle?

Mykines is great for puffins, but be warned: if the weather turns, the ferry gets cancelled and you might be stuck there for an extra day. Plan accordingly!

Stay in Tórshavn if you want easy access to restaurants, but honestly, staying in a smaller village like Gjógv is much more atmospheric for a photographer.

Don't count on the weather! It changes every five minutes, so just pack layers and a good rain cover for your camera gear.

If you are into photography, you absolutely have to check out the Kallur Lighthouse. It's a bit of a hike, but the composition is classic for a reason.

The Faroe Islands are magical. You won't regret the trip regardless of how you decide to travel around.
