Is FlixBus actually reliable for a multi-country Euro trip?

I'm planning a backpacking trip through Europe this summer and I'm trying to save money by taking buses instead of trains. I've looked at FlixBus routes between cities like Prague, Berlin, and Amsterdam, but I've heard mixed reviews about delays and comfort. Does anyone have experience taking these long-haul buses across borders? Are the night buses worth it for saving on accommodation, or should I just stick to the train for peace of mind?

Honestly, FlixBus is a bit of a gamble. I've taken them a few times between Germany and Poland; sometimes it's fine, other times the bus is two hours late and the Wi-Fi doesn't work.

I second what the OP said about the night buses. I tried one from Paris to Amsterdam and didn't sleep a wink. It's cheap, but you'll be exhausted the next day, which ruins your sightseeing.

If you are on a tight budget, they are fine. Just don't expect luxury. Bring a neck pillow, noise-canceling headphones, and plenty of snacks.

I've had better luck with FlixBus on shorter hops. For long-haul, I personally prefer the train. The Eurail pass might be more expensive, but the reliability and ability to walk around make a huge difference.

Pro tip: Always book the seats in the front if you can. Less motion sickness and you get a better view of the road.

I used FlixBus for my entire trip through Central Europe last year. Had zero issues. Just make sure you arrive at the bus station at least 20 minutes early because they don't wait for anyone.

To add to what others said, keep an eye on your luggage. I've heard stories about bags going missing at stops, so keep your valuables in your backpack at your feet, not in the luggage hold.

The price difference is huge, though. Sometimes FlixBus is 20 euros while the train is 120. If you're a student, that extra 100 bucks is a lot of beer and food money.

It really depends on your luck with the driver and the traffic. I've had a bus break down in the middle of the night on the border of Austria and Hungary. Not a fun experience.

If you value your time and sleep, pay for the train. If you value your wallet, take the bus. It's really that simple.
