My partner and I are finally planning our first trip to Greece for ten days this summer. We really want to visit a few different islands, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by the ferry schedules and logistics. Is it better to stick to one island group like the Cyclades, or should we try to see a bit of everything? Also, how much time should we realistically spend on each island to avoid feeling rushed? Any advice from people who have done this before would be greatly appreciated.

Stick to one island group! Trying to see 'everything' in ten days will just mean spending your entire vacation on a ferry boat. Pick the Cyclades and maybe limit it to three islands max.

I completely agree with the previous post. Don't underestimate how long it takes to check into hotels and navigate ports. 3 nights per island is the sweet spot.

Have you looked at Ferryhopper? It makes comparing schedules a lot easier than trying to navigate the individual operator sites.

Ten days is tight. If I were you, I'd do Athens for two nights, then Naxos and Paros. They are close together and have great ferry connections.

Honestly, skip the party islands if you want to relax. My partner and I went to Milos last year and it was the highlight of our trip.

Is it your first time in Greece? If so, definitely don't try to cram too much in. You'll end up exhausted.

I suggest booking your ferry tickets in advance if you're traveling in July or August. They sell out fast and you don't want to be stuck at the port.

Exactly what the person above said. Also, factor in 'travel time' which is usually half a day once you account for getting to the port and waiting.

What kind of vibe are you looking for? Beaches, nightlife, or history? That changes everything regarding which islands to pick.

Don't forget that ferries can get delayed or cancelled due to the Meltemi winds in the summer. Always leave a buffer day before your flight home!

I did the Cyclades route last year. It was beautiful but honestly, island hopping gets tiresome after the third one. Keep it simple.

Great advice about the wind! We got stuck on Santorini for an extra day once because of the weather. It was a happy accident, but stressful at the time.

Does anyone have recommendations for Naxos? Planning to add it to my itinerary based on these comments.

Naxos is amazing, great food and way more laid back than Mykonos. You'll love it.

Look into the flight options between Athens and some islands. It can save you a whole day of travel time compared to the ferry.

Flights are faster but you miss the experience of being on the water. I'd stick to the ferry for at least one leg of the trip.

Don't overthink it. No matter where you go, the food and the views will be incredible. Just don't try to visit five islands in ten days.

Good point. I tried to do four islands in a week once and I felt like I was living out of my suitcase the whole time.

Have a wonderful trip! Greece is magical, just take it slow and enjoy a frappe by the water.
