I'm planning my first trip to London next month and I'm a huge fan of British royal history. I definitely want to see the main sights like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, but the entry fees are really starting to add up. Does anyone have advice on which paid attractions are actually worth the splurge versus which ones I can just enjoy from the outside? Also, are there any lesser-known historical spots or walking routes that offer a great experience without the massive crowds? I'd love to hear your personal recommendations for making the most of a historical trip without breaking the bank.

Honestly, skip the paid tour of Buckingham Palace. Just watch the Changing of the Guard for free and spend your money at the Tower of London instead, that one is actually worth the ticket price.

I agree with the first comment. The Tower of London is one of the few places where the history really comes alive because of the Yeoman Warder tours. Don't skip it!

If you like royal history, take a walk through St. James's Park. It's beautiful, free, and gives you amazing views of the palace without the crowds.

Check out the Wallace Collection! It is free, right in the heart of London, and feels very regal without the tourist trap prices.

That's a great tip about the Wallace Collection. Also, look into the Banqueting House on Whitehall. It's much cheaper than the big palaces and where Charles I was executed, which is fascinating.

I personally think Westminster Abbey is worth the splurge, even if it is expensive. The history packed into that building is insane.

Don't forget to walk the 'Royal Mile' in London, from Trafalgar Square down to the Palace. You can see so much just by walking and reading the plaques.

If you want to save money, pack a picnic and eat near Kensington Gardens. It’s free to walk around and you get to see the palace exterior which is stunning.

Is there a specific era of royal history you're interested in? That might help me give better suggestions on what's worth paying for.

Whatever you do, don't bother with the paid royal exhibitions in the gift shops or small museums. They are usually overpriced and lack substance compared to the main sites.
