I am planning a multi-country trip to Europe next month and have already secured my Schengen visa from the French consulate. I'm a bit confused about whether I absolutely have to land in France first, or if I can fly directly into Germany since that is where I'll be spending the majority of my time. I’ve read conflicting advice online about the 'port of entry' requirements versus the 'main destination' rule. Does anyone have recent experience with border control when your entry point doesn't match the country that issued the visa? I just want to make sure I don't run into any issues at immigration.

You do not have to enter through France. The 'main destination' rule is what matters, not the port of entry.

Exactly, just make sure you have your itinerary and hotel bookings ready to show if the border officer asks why you're entering in Germany.

I flew into Amsterdam with a Spanish visa last year and had zero issues. Just be prepared to explain your trip.

Wait, be careful. If you spend more days in Germany, you technically should have applied for a German visa. France might be annoyed if they see you aren't visiting them at all.

That's a common misconception. As long as you have a valid Schengen visa, you can enter through any member state.

I’ve done this multiple times. Just carry your supporting documents like hotel reservations and return flight tickets in your hand luggage.

The border control agents are usually pretty chill as long as your paperwork is in order. Don't overthink it.

Does anyone know if this changes if it's a first-time visa? I've heard they are stricter with the first entry.

I had a first-time visa and entered via Italy instead of the issuing country. They didn't even ask a single question.

Just don't lie to them. If they ask, tell them exactly where you're going and for how long. Honesty is the best policy.

It’s all about the 'main destination' rule. If Germany is your main stay, you're fine, but technically you should have applied for a German visa if you aren't visiting France at all.

Good luck with your trip! You'll be fine as long as you have your docs.
