My partner and I are finally planning our first big trip together to celebrate our anniversary next spring. We are looking for somewhere with a really romantic atmosphere, great food, and plenty of walkable streets for sightseeing. We've considered Paris and Venice, but I'm worried they might be too crowded or touristy at that time of year. Does anyone have recommendations for a slightly more relaxed but still incredibly beautiful European city? We'd love to hear about your personal experiences or hidden gems you've discovered.

Honestly, skip Paris and Venice. Try Prague, it has all the charm and architecture but feels much more magical in the spring.

I second Prague! Just make sure to wander away from the Old Town Square if you want to avoid the main crowds.

Have you looked into Seville? The orange blossoms in spring smell absolutely incredible and the food scene is top-tier.

Seville is a great pick, but it can get quite warm even in spring. Maybe consider Lisbon instead?

Lisbon is wonderful, but those hills are no joke if you plan on doing a lot of walking for days on end.

I’d suggest Ljubljana in Slovenia. It’s small, incredibly walkable, and feels like a fairytale city without the massive tourist traps.

Ljubljana is a hidden gem for sure. The riverfront cafes are perfect for a romantic anniversary dinner.

What about Florence? It’s classic for a reason, even if it’s busy. Just wake up early to see the sights before the day-trippers arrive.

Florence is beautiful, but if they are worried about crowds in Paris, they might find Florence just as overwhelming.

Consider Salzburg, Austria. It’s stunningly romantic, very clean, and the surrounding mountain views make for a perfect backdrop for photos.

I had my anniversary in Bruges, Belgium. It’s like a living museum and the chocolate shops are amazing for a romantic treat.

Bruges is nice, but it can feel a bit empty after the sun goes down if you're looking for nightlife.

Don't overlook Edinburgh. It has such a moody, romantic vibe, especially if you stay in the Old Town area.

Edinburgh is great, but pack a raincoat! The weather in spring can be quite unpredictable compared to Southern Europe.

If you want food, go to San Sebastian in Spain. It's a foodie paradise and the beach walk is incredibly romantic.

San Sebastian is fantastic, definitely the best food recommendation here so far.

Wherever you choose, just book a nice boutique hotel instead of a big chain. It makes all the difference for an anniversary trip.
