I'm heading to London for a long weekend next month and I really want to focus my trip around food markets. Borough Market is obviously on my list, but I'm looking for a few other spots that aren't quite as overwhelming or tourist-heavy. I'm a big fan of street food, especially anything with international flavors or unique local baked goods. Could anyone recommend some hidden gems or local favorites that are worth the trip? Also, are there specific days or times I should avoid to get the best experience?

Maltby Street Market is a fantastic alternative to Borough. It's much smaller, tucked under the railway arches, and the food quality is top-tier. Go on a Saturday morning before the crowds peak.

Totally agree with Maltby Street! It feels much more intimate than the big tourist traps.

If you want international variety, you absolutely have to visit Mercato Mayfair. It's inside an old converted church and the atmosphere is incredible.

Seconding Mercato Mayfair, but check their website first because they host events sometimes that close off parts of the market.

Skip the main tourist zones and head to Brockley Market on a Saturday. It's where the locals actually shop and eat. The burger stands there are life-changing.

I second Brockley Market! It's a bit of a trek from central London, but it's worth it for the lack of crowds alone.

Whatever you do, avoid Borough Market on a Saturday afternoon. It is literal shoulder-to-shoulder madness and you won't enjoy your food.

Try Victoria Park Market on a Sunday. It’s super chill, great for local baked goods, and you can take a nice walk through the park afterward.

Is Victoria Park Market very expensive? I've heard mixed things about the pricing there compared to other spots.

Whitecross Street Market is a hidden gem for weekday lunches if you happen to be in the City area. The variety of global street food is honestly unmatched.

If you're into bakeries, don't miss out on the stalls at Broadway Market in Hackney. Their sourdough and pastries are some of the best in the city.

I've been to Broadway Market twice and it gets pretty packed, so try to get there by 10 AM if you want to avoid the worst of the queue for the popular bakeries.
