I'm currently putting together an itinerary for a three-week trip through Europe with the main goal of visiting as many world-class art museums as possible. I've already got the Louvre and the Uffizi on the list, but I'm worried about getting 'museum fatigue' after the first week. Does anyone have tips on how to balance the big galleries with smaller, hidden gems to avoid burnout? I'd also love to know if it's worth getting the multi-day city passes or if I should just buy individual tickets for each site.

The golden rule is one major museum per day, max. If you try to do the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay in the same 24 hours, you will burn out by Wednesday.

Totally agree with the one-a-day rule. Also, consider going in the late afternoon. The crowds thin out and you're not rushing to see everything before lunch.

Have you considered the Paris Museum Pass? It saved me a fortune last time, but you really have to hit at least two spots a day to make the math work.

Skip the city passes. They often force you to rush through places you don't actually care about just to 'get your money's worth.' Buy individual tickets for the ones that really matter.

I second that. Buying individual tickets gives you the freedom to just walk out if you aren't feeling the vibe, without feeling like you wasted a pass credit.

When in Florence, don't just stick to the Uffizi. The Bargello is a hidden gem and way less stressful. It's the perfect palate cleanser.

Great advice about the Bargello! I'd add the San Marco museum in Florence too. It’s quiet, beautiful, and a great way to escape the heat.

Don't forget to schedule 'do nothing' days. Seriously. Spend a day just sitting in a cafe or walking through a park. Your brain needs to process all that art.

I learned the hard way that three weeks of back-to-back galleries is exhausting. By the end, everything just starts looking like 'old painting, old painting, old painting.'

To avoid fatigue, pick one specific theme for each museum visit. Maybe focus only on the Renaissance portraits or just the sculptures. Don't try to see the whole collection.

I always buy a physical guidebook for each city. It helps me prioritize the top 5 things I want to see so I don't feel guilty about skipping the rest of the museum.

Check if the museums have evening hours. Visiting the Louvre at night is a completely different experience-much more atmospheric and fewer tour groups.

Does anyone have recommendations for smaller galleries in London? I’m worried about the British Museum being too overwhelming.

Try the Wallace Collection in London! It's in a beautiful townhouse, it's free, and it feels like a private home rather than a giant warehouse of artifacts.

Honestly, just enjoy the trip. If you miss a museum, it's just a reason to come back to Europe another time!
